SoTL

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is the scholarly inquiry into teaching and learning. The Teaching and Learning Project is a form of SoTL. An essay about and photographs from the Teaching and Learning Project were published in the 2013 issue of the NEA journal Thought and Action. My interest and involvement in other forms of scholarship in arts education is also related to the Teaching and Learning photographs.

In 2012, I worked with two of my colleagues to write a chapter for To Improve the Academy, a national journal on faculty, instructional and organizational development. Our goal in this text was to help educational developers work with faculty artists in more productive ways. The chapter is available in To Improve the Academy: Resources for Faculty, Instructional, and Organizational Development, Volume 31.

In 2006, I wrote an essay on mentorship in studio arts classrooms for Teaching Photography: Tools for the Imaging Educator (Focal Press). The essay details a peer mentorship process I developed for my studio photography courses at Inver Hills Community College and with grant assistance from the then Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Center for Teaching and Learning. The book is available for purchase through Focal Press.
