Last week, I had the pleasure of photographing and speaking at Caltech’s TeachWeek. The five-day event featured, among other speakers and a couple excellent panel discussions, open classes–where faculty from any area could sit in on and observe/learn from their colleagues’ approaches to teaching various subjects. I photographed most of these open classes, as well as a couple (tango, for instance) that weren’t on the regular schedule.

This was my second visit to Caltech. Like my visit in 2013, I was captivated by the broad diversity of instruction at this institution. Most notable this time was faculty willingness to build in one-on-one instruction and (often amazing) demonstrations into large lecture courses. I feel the thousands of images I amassed this round only begin to scratch the surface of what’s happening in Caltech classrooms every day.
